Limecraft 2025.5 – Faster Subtitling, Smarter Sharing, and AI Dubbing

This release doubles down on accessibility, further to shipping a raft of quality-of-life improvements for editors and producers. While the industry is buzzing with anticipation around generative AI, we put it into practice. At IBC, we are unveiling our first AI dubbing prototype — fully integrated into Limecraft’s existing production environment. But before that, let’s dive into what’s shipping now.

In addition to major enhancements in subtitling and sharing, we’ve made purposeful changes to our user interface to improve accessibility. With updated icons and adjusted colour schemes, especially across overview and detail pages, we’ve increased contrast and clarity to ensure that Limecraft remains easy to use for all users — including those with visual impairments or contrast sensitivity. These changes not only contribute to a more inclusive design, but also improve focus and reduce cognitive load during intense editorial tasks.

The 2025.5 release brings major enhancements to indication of speaker changes in subtitles, drastically reducing the amount of manual work in post-editing. We’ve also introduced a smarter way to share content using shorter URLs, making collaboration even smoother. And that’s not all: subtitle exports now support stricter compliance with EBU-TT-D and EBU-TT standards, and we’ve added new download and export options to keep your data well-structured and accessible.

New: Character-Based Speaker Identification – A Game Changer for Subtitlers

In professional subtitling workflows, especially when preparing content for broadcast or streaming, correctly identifying who says what is critical — not just for accuracy, but for accessibility and viewer experience.

Up until now, Limecraft allowed users to differentiate speakers in subtitles using colours, a method popular in formats like Netflix-style SDH or live captioning. With the 2025.5 update, we’re introducing a new and powerful way of handling speaker changes: character-based markers directly within the subtitle text.

This enhancement gives users precise control over:

• The character to indicate new speakers (chosen from a predefined list)
• The spacing before and after the label
• The placement and formatting of speaker cues

This new mechanism doesn’t just improve visual clarity. It drastically reduces the time needed for proofreading and post-editing, especially in long-form content with frequent speaker changes. For example, imagine editing a documentary with 5+ interviewees — now, speaker assignments are applied consistently and programmatically, with no need for manual insertion or review.

The result? A faster subtitling process, reduced fatigue for editors, and fewer chances for costly mistakes downstream. Combined with our advanced speech-to-text engine and subtitle editor, this brings us another step closer to fully streamlined, professional-grade subtitling automation.

Share Smarter with Short URLs

Sharing content via Limecraft has always been frictionless, but we’ve now made it even sleeker. Since this 2025.5 release, any clip or collection shared via Limecraft now will use a shortened URL.

This means:

• Links are cleaner and easier to paste into emails or chats
• Users can share without exposing internal structure or metadata
• When accessed, the browser automatically redirects to the full, secure destination

Small changes, big convenience. Especially when dealing with hundreds of clips or external reviewers on tight deadlines.

Even More Enhancements: From Subtitles to Shot Lists

This release also delivers a series of under-the-hood improvements that polish the Limecraft experience across the board:

• Strict Subtitle Format Compliance: We now offer separate export options for EBU-TT-D and EBU-TT formats, applying stricter conformance checks. Notably, the ‘SMPTE Timecode’ option is now correctly limited to EBU-TT only.
• Extended Download Capabilities: When exporting media assets, users can now choose between a flat list or folder-per-clip structure—perfect for organizing material in bulk.
• Improved Shot List Export: Summarised clips exported as shot lists now also include chapter titles, providing greater context and usability for editors.
• UX and Visual Tweaks: A cleaner, more consistent look thanks to updated icons and colour schemes across overview and detail pages.
• Smarter Review Mode: Comments in full screen now behave more intuitively, and subtitles now display automatically when clips are played from a shared link.
