Limecraft 2026.4 – Team-Based Access Control, GPU Acceleration and Smarter Localisation

Ghent, Belgium, 16 June 2026 – With the fourth release in our planned series of eight platform updates for 2026, Limecraft continues to expand its capabilities for organisations managing media workflows at scale. This release focuses on three areas that become increasingly important as productions grow in size and complexity: access management, performance, and operational efficiency.

The headline feature of Limecraft 2026.4 is the introduction of TeaM-based Access Control (TMAC), a new account-level access management framework that allows administrators to manage permissions across multiple workspaces from a single location. While Limecraft has long supported Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) at workspace level, TMAC adds a powerful abstraction of centralised administration designed for broadcasters, production groups, localisation providers and other organisations working across multiple productions. Together, roles and Teams provide the flexibility needed to support both individual projects and enterprise-scale operations.

Alongside this, Limecraft Edge introduces beta support for GPU-accelerated video encoding and decoding on Apple Silicon Macs, significantly improving processing performance for common ingest and editorial workflows. Depending on the hardware platform and workflow, users can expect substantial reductions in processing time, helping content become available faster and reducing bottlenecks during ingest and proxy creation.

This release also continues our investment in interoperability and localisation. We further extend the advanced AAF export functionality introduced earlier this year, while new translation optimisation settings allow organisations to balance turnaround speed and translation quality according to their workflow requirements.

Collectively, these improvements reinforce Limecraft’s mission: helping professional media organisations cut down operational complexity while scaling efficiently.

Team-Based Access Control: Managing Access at Scale

As organisations grow, managing permissions workspace by workspace quickly becomes inefficient. Broadcasters may collaborate with dozens of production companies across hundreds of active productions. Localisation providers often work with large pools of freelance translators and subtitlers. In these environments, repeatedly inviting users and assigning permissions becomes both time-consuming and error-prone.

With Limecraft 2026.4, we introduced Team-Based Access Control (TMAC): an account-level mechanism that connects users, permissions and workspaces into a single reusable configuration.

Limecraft introduces Team-Based Access Control (TMAC). Team-Based Access Control allows greater flexibility when managing large groups of users.

Administrators can now create Teams such as Production Partners, Freelance Subtitlers, Delivery Operations or Archive Administrators, define the permissions those groups require, and grant access across one or many workspaces. New members automatically inherit the appropriate permissions, while new productions can be linked to existing Teams with minimal effort.

Importantly, Teams do not replace Limecraft’s existing role-based access controls. Workspace roles continue to function exactly as before and remain ideal for exceptions or project-specific requirements. Teams extend this model by providing centralised administration for recurring access patterns.

The result is a more scalable and consistent permission framework that significantly reduces administrative overhead while improving governance and transparency across large organisations.

GPU-Accelerated Video Transcoding on Apple Silicon

Performance matters. Especially when creating editorial proxies, preparing content for review, or processing contribution media, encoding and decoding often become the bottleneck. As media volumes continue to grow, GPU acceleration is a critical success factor toward reduced turnaround times and improved operational efficiency throughout the production chain.

Limecraft Edge now introduces a beta implementation of GPU-based video encoding and decoding for macOS, leveraging the dedicated media engines available on modern Apple Silicon hardware. The feature currently supports common production formats including H.264, H.265 and ProRes and is designed to accelerate both ingest processing and proxy generation workflows.

Based on industry benchmarks and testing of Apple’s hardware-accelerated media pipeline, performance improvements can vary depending on the Mac model and source format, but users can typically expect processing speeds between 2x and 5x faster compared to CPU-based workflows.

The current release is available as a controlled beta programme, allowing selected customers to evaluate performance, stability and quality across a broad range of Apple hardware platforms.

Advanced AAF Export: Completing the Editorial Workflow

AAF export has been a major focus throughout the 2026 release cycle. Following the introduction of template-based AAF export in 2026.2 and subsequent workflow enhancements and track definitions in 2026.3, this 2026.4 update delivers additional refinements aimed at complex editorial environments.

Two improvements address situations commonly encountered in large-scale productions:

  • When multiple segments overlap on the same track definition, Limecraft now automatically creates additional tracks using sequential naming conventions.
  • When media is not assigned to any defined track, Limecraft automatically creates an additional track to ensure content remains available in the export.

While seemingly small, these enhancements further reduce manual intervention and help ensure that exports behave predictably, even when dealing with complex timelines and large volumes of material.

Together with the template framework introduced earlier this year, AAF export continues to evolve into a powerful bridge between production and professional editing environments such as Avid Media Composer.

Translation Optimisation: Choosing Between Speed and Accuracy

Not every localisation workflow has the same priorities. Some projects require the fastest possible turnaround, while others place greater emphasis on translation quality and nuance.

With Limecraft 2026.4, organisations can now select a translation optimisation mode at workspace level when using DeepL-powered translation workflows. Administrators can choose whether translations should prioritise processing speed or favour higher-quality output.

This provides greater flexibility for language professions to balance deadlines, budgets and quality requirements. Fast-turnaround workflows such as rough-cut reviews or internal content preparation may benefit from prioritising speed, while subtitling, localisation and accessibility workflows can opt for higher-quality translation where supported.
