Ghent, Belgium, 23rd November 2023 – Media technology innovator Limecraft is pleased to announce that the company’s forthcoming new AI-based facial, speech and character recognition tool, Media Intelligence, was recognised at the 15-16 November SATIS Expo in Paris with an award in the ‘Future/R&D’ category.

Media Intelligence is a new addition to Limecraft’s cloud-based production support platform. It dramatically speeds up the process of finding specific content. Users gain the ability to search catalogues and archives according to specific actors, words or characters appearing in a scene, and/or specific words or phrases spoken. These criteria help create very precise and powerful searches, reducing the time required to review content and helping producers more easily identify and monetise historical material.

“We have seen the widespread adoption of AI-based tools throughout the media industry over the past year,” comments Maarten Verwaest, Limecraft chairman. “With the pace of innovation and technical development accelerating, neither speech-to-text nor face recognition adequately reflects the scale and ambition of what high-end producers want to achieve with AI. Searchability has become a key factor for documentary, news and entertainment creators who are having to manage and archive ever-increasing amounts of content.

“We have now reached the point where AI is becoming truly valuable. The combination of highly accurate automatic speech recognition and capabilities, such as face recognition, optical character recognition and sentiment analysis, enables exciting new capabilities for editors and archive producers. This represents an evolution beyond transcription into interpreting, analysing and using images in more valuable ways.

“Limecraft remains committed to giving producers the ability to really understand their media content. We’re doing that by integrating AI into their workspace seamlessly. In turn, they can expect pinpoint accuracy and faster results, resulting in more ways to monetise their programmes and their archives.”

“We know that searchability is key and we want to give our customers access to as many data points as we can,” adds Nico Oorts, Limecraft’s Head of Product. “With broadcasters now airing petabytes of data every month, it is vital that their content is catalogued appropriately so it can be quickly and easily found in the future. We have consistently been building up the use of AI services at the core of our MAM solution. It now makes perfect sense to open up the abilities of AI to recognise faces, words, characters and speech across wider elements of our cloud-based video production platform.”
